Abstract

 This is investigated through an analytical focus on linguistic representations of the discursive categories that are created and re-created in interpersonal interactions. In these interactions, individuals, from one situa-tion to another, reinterpret, negotiate, renegotiate, and use different strategies to gain primacy and influence over which interpretation applies. Through linguistic representa-tions, morally correct or incorrect actions, norms, and values are produced and repro-duced. In this way, these narratives exist as a social and pedagogical phenomenon in a state of constant linguistic flux. In the empirical material, descriptions by urban-living prospective university students of the conditions for university study, produce and reproduce in a series of significant linguistic representations.
